Join this 2 day desert tour from Fes to Merzouga sahara and explore some of Morocco’s most breathtaking landscapes along the way. Travel through the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing charming Berber villages and the alpine-style town of Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Stop in the Cedar Forest of Azrou, where you can see the playful Barbary macaque monkeys, before continuing toward the vast palm groves and dramatic scenery of the Ziz Valley.
When you arrive in Merzouga, your adventure continues with a camel ride across the golden Erg Chebbi dunes. As the sun sets, the desert comes alive with magical colors. You’ll spend the night in a traditional desert camp, enjoying Moroccan food, Berber music, and an unforgettable view of the starry sky above the Sahara.
The next morning, wake up early to admire the sunrise over the dunes before heading back by camel or 4×4. On your return journey, visit the lively Rissani market, where locals trade everything from spices and dates to crafts and livestock, offering a real taste of desert life. You’ll also stop in Erfoud, a town famous for its fossils, where you can see unique pieces formed millions of years ago.
By evening, you’ll be back in Fes with wonderful memories of the desert, the culture, and the beautiful Moroccan landscapes. This trip is the perfect way to experience the magic of the Sahara in just two days!
Today, your 2-day desert tour from Fes to Merzouga begins! We’ll first visit Ifrane, known as “Moroccan Switzerland,” with its European-style architecture, parks, and lakes. Next, we’ll stop at the Cedar Forest near Azrou, home to ancient cedar trees and playful Barbary monkeys. After feeding the monkeys and enjoying the forest, we’ll head to Midelt, the “apple capital,” for lunch.
Continuing through the Ziz Valley, the landscape transforms into desert as we approach Merzouga. Here, you’ll ride camels to a comfortable desert camp, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, drumming, and Berber songs under the stars.
Wake up early to witness a stunning sunrise over the dunes, then enjoy breakfast at the camp before returning to Merzouga by camel. Meet your driver and head to Rissani, where you’ll explore its lively market (especially vibrant on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays). N
ext, visit Erfoud to learn about fossilized marble at a local workshop. Drive along the Ziz River, stopping to admire the breathtaking Ziz Valley, and continue through cedar forests and Ifrane. The tour concludes with a drop-off at your accommodation in Fes.
