Day 1: Ouarzazate – M’hamid El Ghizlane

Your 4-day desert adventure begins at 8:30 a.m., departing by 4×4 toward the vast dunes of Erg Chegaga. You cross the Anti-Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi-n-Tinfifte pass before arriving in Agdz, a small oasis town famous for its many varieties of dates.

Descending into the Draa Valley, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of lush palm groves stretching along the river below. Agdz once stood on the ancient trans-Saharan caravan route linking Mali and Niger to Morocco. Today, its extensive palm plantations produce an impressive 44 types of dates.

Part of the journey takes you off-road through the Draa Valley, traveling between the mountains and the river while passing traditional villages that offer insight into southern Moroccan life. You will visit Kasbah Tamnougalte, the oldest kasbah in the valley—partially inhabited, while some sections, including the former Jewish quarter, remain in atmospheric ruins.

Continuing south along the historic caravan route, you reach Zagora for lunch. Nearby in Tamgroute, you’ll visit the famous green pottery cooperatives and an ancient Quranic library housing valuable manuscripts.

In the afternoon, you travel farther south to M’hamid El Ghizlane, the gateway to the Sahara and the end of the paved road. Dinner and overnight stay are in a luxury desert camp featuring private bathrooms and king-sized beds, with dunes just steps away for a peaceful evening stroll.

Day 2: M’hamid El Ghizlane – Erg Chegaga

Rise early to watch the sunrise from the dunes before enjoying free time to wander across the sands. After breakfast, you set out to explore the surrounding area.

Crossing the often-dry Draa River, you visit the old village of M’hamid, where homes are built entirely from adobe—an ideal material for insulating against the intense desert heat. Walking through the village offers a glimpse into daily life in this remote yet captivating region.

After lunch, you head toward the majestic Erg Chegaga dunes, located about 60 km away. The journey takes you slowly through varied desert landscapes, from sweeping sand dunes (erg) to rocky plains (hammada) and scattered oases.

Upon arrival at camp, you settle into your private tent and relax with tea and Moroccan pastries. Later, you enjoy a camel ride to the summit of the towering 300-meter dunes to witness a spectacular sunset. Far from any villages, the silence and immensity of the Sahara are truly unforgettable.

Dinner and overnight stay are once again in a luxury camp, offering the same level of comfort as your previous night.

Day 3: Erg Chegaga – Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou

Wake early for another breathtaking sunrise as the changing light paints the dunes in shifting colors. After breakfast, you depart for a 90-kilometer desert crossing in a new direction, passing Lake Iriqui, rugged mountains, and fossil-rich areas.

You then follow part of the historic Paris-Dakar Rally route to Foum Zguid, the first village after the desert, where you stop for lunch.

Continuing north on paved roads, you pass striking rock formations before arriving in Taznakht, a town renowned for its Berber carpets. If you wish, you can visit a cooperative to see traditional weaving techniques in action.

Later, you drive toward Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou, arriving in the late afternoon. You spend the night in a charming guesthouse overlooking this UNESCO World Heritage Site, staying in a riad in the modern village nearby.

Day 4: Aït Ben Haddou – Dades Gorges – Ouarzazate

After breakfast, you explore Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou, Morocco’s most famous ksar and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.

Next, you travel to the Skoura Oasis to visit Kasbah Amredhil, famously featured on the former 50-dirham banknote. This carefully restored kasbah is a remarkable example of traditional architecture.

Continuing along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, you pass through the Valley of the Roses and arrive in Kela’a M’Gouna, where you may visit a cooperative producing cosmetics made from locally grown roses.

In the Dades Gorges, you enjoy lunch with panoramic valley views. Afterwards, you have time for a leisurely walk along the river or through the dramatic canyon scenery before returning to Ouarzazate in the afternoon.

Your driver will transfer you to your hotel, marking the end of your unforgettable 4-day desert journey.
