Day 1: Ouarzazate → Chegaga – The Adventure Launches

Kick off your remarkable 6-day Saharan journey from Ouarzazate, the traditional doorway to the desert. This exclusive, private expedition is crafted for genuine adventurers seeking an authentic Moroccan experience. Our thoughtfully designed route leads you toward the legendary dunes of Chegaga and Erg Chebbi. Whether you usually picture a tour starting from Marrakech or prefer beginning in Ouarzazate, this Sahara excursion promises an extraordinary adventure.

We set out from Ouarzazate heading for Chegaga, one of the crown jewels of any Moroccan journey. En route, we pass through Taznakht—renowned for its colorful Berber rugs—and continue to Foum Zguit. Watch for the striking, short-lived Lake Iriki along the way. The day’s highlight: an exhilarating camel trek across the golden sands of the Chegaga dunes. As night falls, enjoy traditional live music and a delicious dinner, making your Ouarzazate desert experience truly memorable.

Day 2: Chegaga → Zagora – At the Gates of the Desert

Wake up to a magical sunrise over the Chegaga dunes before heading toward Mhamid. Along this leg—an essential chapter in any Moroccan desert guide—we stop at the historic Koranic library in Tamegroute. We then arrive in Zagora, famously known as the “Desert Gate,” a town where the fabled caravan route to Timbuktu once began.

Day 3: Zagora → Merzouga – Through the Draa Valley

Get ready for an action-packed day as we continue from Ouarzazate toward Merzouga. We cross the scenic Draa Valley, winding through charming Berber villages. A fascinating pause awaits at the ancient rock carvings of Aït Ouazik. Our road takes us to Tazarine, celebrated for its annual Henna festival, and then to Alnif, known for sweet dates and intriguing fossils. As the day progresses, the brilliant sands of Erg Chebbi appear on the horizon. The day ends at a comfortable hotel nestled right by these towering dunes—an ideal base for any deep-desert exploration.

Day 4: Erg Chebbi & Khamlia – Full Day of Discovery

After a hearty breakfast, prepare for an unforgettable deep dive into the Erg Chebbi region. We follow the old Paris-Dakar rally route and visit Khamlia, a village famed for its distinctive culture and hypnotic Gnawa music. Lunch features traditional Berber pizza. This day offers a perfect glimpse of what makes Ouarzazate and its surrounding deserts so special—an absolute highlight of any Moroccan desert journey.

Day 5: Merzouga → Todra Gorges – Sunrise & Stone Fossils

Rise early for a stunning sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After a refreshing shower and breakfast, we head to Rissani, home to the largest traditional souk in southern Morocco. Next, we visit a fossilized marble workshop in Erfoud, where ancient stone is transformed into art. Our route continues through charming Berber villages like Touroug and Tinjdad before reaching Tinghir, the gateway to the magnificent Todra Gorges. This part of the journey—tying together the Dades and Todra Gorges—offers a spectacular farewell to the deep desert.

Day 6: Todra Gorges → Ouarzazate – The Valley of Roses

On the final stretch of your Ouarzazate–Chegaga–Erg Chebbi loop, we depart from Boumalne and enter the scenic Dades Valley, eventually arriving at the dramatic Dades Gorges. An exciting off-road segment then takes us to Boutaghrar, a unique village where nomadic families live in mountain caves. After a leisurely lunch, we visit the enchanting Rose Valley in Kelaat Mgouna. As the day winds down, we stop at the Kasbah of Amerdhyle in the Skoura Oasis before completing our epic journey back in Ouarzazate.
